Eleven more people died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours while 113 new cases were confirmed, according to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin released Wednesday.
The DGHS noted that delayed reporting of four deaths from Monday contributed to the higher single-day toll.
Over the past six months, official data records 1,076 deaths nationwide 101 confirmed from measles and 975 with symptoms. Dhaka Division remains the hardest-hit area with 439 symptomatic deaths, followed by Sylhet with 170, Rajshahi with 93, Mymensingh and Chattogram with 78 each, Barishal with 60, Khulna with 42, and Rangpur with 15.
In the 24 hours leading to 8:00 AM Wednesday 1,157 patients seeking care for symptoms arrived at hospitals with 1,068 admitted. Overall hospital admissions have reached 162,048 while 155,612 patients have been discharged.
Total suspected cases stand at 183,449 with 20,851 confirmed through testing. Health officials emphasized that because testing is not conducted for every patient also the actual national caseload is likely higher.
