Five more children have died from measles across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours and taking the toll higher as the nationwide outbreak continues to spread according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A press release issued by the DGHS control room on Thursday confirmed that 1,283 new measles cases and suspected symptomatic infections were reported in a single day. Of these, 100 were laboratory-confirmed measles cases while 1,183 individuals presented with symptoms.
Official health data tracks a sharp rise in cases over six months. Between March 15 and September 24 the health authorities recorded 184,632 total suspected measles cases with 20,951 confirmed through laboratory testing.
Hospital admissions have surged alongside the spread of infection. A total of 163,153 patients suffering from measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide during this period. Health officials noted that 156,744 individuals have recovered and been discharged so far.
Health experts emphasize that measles is a highly contagious viral disease that poses severe risks to young children also urging parents to ensure full vaccination and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear.
