


Eight more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 AM on Saturday with raising Bangladesh’s total measles-related death toll to 1,122 this year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified all eight recent fatalities as suspected measles deaths. With these latest figures, the country’s suspected measles death toll has reached 1,020 while laboratory-confirmed deaths stand at 102.
Health authorities recorded 1,109 new suspected cases during the same 24-hour window, pushing the cumulative nationwide total of suspected infections to 195,197. Additionally, 43 new laboratory-confirmed cases were registered also bringing total confirmed cases to 21,666.
DGHS data shows that since March 15 a total of 173,024 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of those hospitalized 167,756 patients have recovered and been discharged.
Health experts continue to emphasize the importance of timely vaccination and early medical attention to curb the spread of infection among children.
