Teenage rocker Nene Royal has made history by becoming the first Thai contestant to win America's Got Talent with taking home the grand prize of $1 million (£755,000) for the show’s 21st season.
The 16-year-old musician real name is Rattikarn Amloy, sealed her victory in California with a high-energy heavy metal performance of "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes by beating nine other finalists including magicians, dog acts and a robot dance crew. Ahead of the results she shared the stage with legendary rock band Linkin Park to perform "The Emptiness Machine."
Nene first captivated audiences during her audition where her rendition of The Cranberries' "Zombie" went viral with over 20 million views.
Her historic win sparked widespread celebrations in Thailand where fans followed the results closely online. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul commended her with stating she brought honor and pride to the nation while government representatives highlighted her journey as an inspiration to young dreamers.
Hailing from Phuket, Nene began playing guitar at age seven and previously honed her skills busking at the local Naka Weekend Market. Her former school and hometown community joined in national celebrations as news of her victory spread globally.
"I'm very happy and emotional right now" Nene said while thanking supporters worldwide.
