National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has signed on behalf of Bangladesh Government an agreement with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing to purchase 11 new aircraft to supporting the plans to expand its aviation sector and establish new international routes.
Biman Chairman Rumee A. Hossain signed the deal on behalf of the airline on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. High-level US officials attended the ceremony including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, underscoring the diplomatic and commercial significance of the agreement. A Boeing delegation also held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following the signing.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Grand Hyatt Hotel the Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin noted that the deal reflects Bangladesh’s growing aviation requirements. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir added that US President Donald Trump recently sent a letter to Prime Minister Rahman expressing appreciation for Bangladesh’s investment in Boeing aircraft and confidence in the nation's economic outlook.
While Bangladesh maintains a long-standing commercial relationship with Boeing, government officials emphasized that fleet expansion remains demand-driven and technical assessments for future acquisitions including potential purchases from Airbus, remain open.
