A two-year-old girl named Alifa died after drowning in a pond in Bhola Sadar Upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred around noon on November 8 in Ward No. 8 of East Ilisha Union in Bhola Sadar. Alifa was the daughter of Md Nirab and Shirin, residents of the area.

According to family members, Alifa's mother was busy with household chores when the child was playing inside the house. At one point, Alifa left the house unnoticed by her mother and other family members. When they realised she was missing, they searched the surrounding area but could not find her.

Later, family members spotted the child floating in a pond beside their home. They rescued her and rushed her to Bhola 250-bed General Hospital, where the attending physician declared her dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhola Sadar Model Police Station, Muhammad Monirul Islam, confirmed the incident.

He said police visited the scene after receiving the information. However, as the family had no complaint, the child's body was handed over to her relatives.
