Syria has rejected reports that it plans to deploy troops to Yemen to support Saudi Arabia in its conflict with Houthi rebels, describing the claims as baseless.
Syria's Foreign Ministry described the defence cooperation agreement between the two countries' defence ministries as the most significant of the deals, but did not disclose its terms.
The agreement was signed days after Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said his government was considering joining a mutual defence arrangement involving Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
Speaking at the Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain on Saturday, al-Shaibani said discussions were under way to assess Syria's possible inclusion in the Makkah pact.
Saudi Arabia has sought military assistance from the United States and several countries in Europe and the Middle East, requesting both defensive and offensive support amid renewed fighting against the Houthis in Yemen.
The Houthis have attacked Saudi airports and oil facilities as part of their campaign to expand their control in Yemen, fighting forces aligned with the country's internationally recognised government.
