Renowned academic and research scholar Professor Dr. Sharif Nafe As-Saber has joined Stamford University Bangladesh as its new Vice Chancellor with bringing over three decades of international higher education and public administration experience back to his homeland.
His appointment is expected to transform the university’s academic outlook, strengthening the connection between modern research, ethical governance and industry needs.
A Wealth of Global Experience
Before returning to Bangladesh Dr. As-Saber taught at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman. He previously held senior leadership roles across leading Australian and New Zealand institutions, including:
RMIT University (Australia): Served as Associate Professor, Deputy Head and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation. He also helped design the Master of International Business program aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Monash University (Australia): Served as founding Director of the MPhil (Industry) program and Director of the International Business Program, serving on the university's Academic Board.
University of Tasmania & Massey University: Served as Sub-Dean and Manager of International Business programs respectively.
Diverse Academic Credentials and Public Service
Dr. As-Saber holds a PhD in International Business Strategy from the University of Tasmania an MBA from Monash University and degrees in Law and International Relations from the University of Dhaka.
Uniquely combining academic theory with real-world governance, Dr. As-Saber began his career in 1983 in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Administration Cadre, serving as a magistrate and local government executive. He later served as Deputy National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and acted as Vice Chairperson of the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Middle East Chapter (2023–2025).
Research, Governance and Creative Contributions
A prolific researcher, Dr. As-Saber’s work spans artificial intelligence, climate change, public policy and ethics. He has published nine academic books, secured major research grants from the European Union and the Australian Research Council, and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Fashion Business Journal and President of the Australia-based think tank Governance and Administration Innovation Network (GAIN).
Beyond academia Dr. As-Saber is a noted poet and columnist who emerged during the 1970s Bengali literary movement with four published poetry collections to his name.
