The Paikgacha upazila and municipality units of the Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebak Dal, an affiliate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), held a protest march and rally on Thursday against what organisers described as a conspiracy to destabilise the country through planned acts of violence.
The programme was organised on Thursday afternoon (September 24) as part of a centrally announced programme.
The protest march began by parading through major roads in Paikgacha upazila headquarters before ending at the intersection in front of Kopotakkho Market, where a rally was held.
The rally was chaired by Yagneshwar Sana Kartik, recently retired member secretary of the Paikgacha Upazila Swechhasebak Dal, and jointly conducted by former senior joint conveners Molla Yunus Ali and Sohel Gazi.
Paikgacha Upazila BNP convener Dr Abdul Majid attended as the chief guest, while former Upazila BNP general secretary and former Union Parishad chairman SM Enamul Haque was the chief speaker.
Among the special guests were Upazila BNP member secretary and former panel mayor SM Imdadul Haque, Paikgacha Municipality BNP general secretary Kamal Ahmed Selim Newaz, Upazila BNP joint convener Kazi Sazzad Ahmed Manik, BNP leader Tushar Kanti Mondal, former Swechhasebak Dal leader Abdul Quader Shamim Zowardar, and other local BNP and Swechhasebak Dal leaders and activists.
The organisers said the programme was held in protest against attempts to create instability in the country through what they described as planned violence. Similar centrally announced protest programmes have recently been organised by BNP-affiliated organisations in different parts of the country.
A large number of local leaders and activists attended the Paikgacha programme.
