A poisonous monocled cobra that became trapped in a safety net in Boalkhali, Chattogram, has been rescued and later released into a deep forest.
The snake was rescued at around 8:30am on Thursday (September 24) by Amir Hossain Shaon, a member of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team.
Shaon said the approximately four-foot-long cobra had become trapped in a safety net beside a tea stall near Charandwip Union Parishad.
After receiving information about the snake, he rescued it and released it into a forested area.
The snake was estimated to be around 3 to 4.5 years old, Shaon said.
He added that monocled cobras lay eggs around this time of year. The snake may have been searching for a safe place to lay its eggs, he said.
The monocled cobra is known for the round, O-shaped marking behind its hood, which can appear like a large eye when viewed from a distance.
Shaon said the marking on several monocled cobras rescued recently has appeared incomplete and crescent-shaped. According to him, such variations are caused by genetic differences.
