Measles: Three More Death as Toll Hits 1,019

Bangladesh recorded three more deaths linked to measles symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 AM Sunday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Two deaths occurred in Dhaka Division and one in Chattogram Division.

During the same period the 63 people tested positive for measles and 905 sought hospital treatment for symptoms with 822 admitted.

With this update the total number of measles-related deaths since March 15 has reached 1,019 comprising 100 confirmed deaths and 919 suspected cases. Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of confirmed deaths at 63 followed by Barishal with 19. Among suspected cases, Dhaka again led with 415 deaths followed by Sylhet (157), Rajshahi (93), Mymensingh (77), Chattogram (70), Barishal (57), Khulna (39) and Rangpur (14).

Cumulative hospital admissions for measles have reached 151,024 with 145,252 patients discharged so far. The total number of suspected cases nationwide now stands at 171,543 including 20,069 laboratory-confirmed infections.

Health officials continue to urge parents to ensure timely vaccination for children, as the outbreak now in its sixth month remains a significant public health concern across the country.
