Russian jet-powered drones struck two petrol stations and railway infrastructure in Kyiv early Wednesday and killing one person and injuring seven others.
The morning attack sent explosions echoing through the capital and thick smoke billowing over the city center. Ukrainian oil company Ukrnafta confirmed one of its service stations was hit the sixth such facility targeted in recent weeks. Railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia also reported damage to its infrastructure with one rail worker among the injured.
Military analysts note Russia has shifted tactics in recent weeks, launching near-constant barrages of faster with higher-flying jet-powered drones that are significantly harder for Ukrainian air defenses to intercept.
The strikes occurred just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss a potential pause in attacks on energy infrastructure. Zelensky stated he remains open to "any format" of a bilateral energy ceasefire also provided Moscow halts its strikes on Ukraine's power and fuel network.
