Police have recovered the body of a six-year-old boy stuffed inside a sack from a canal in Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila on Tuesday morning. The gruesome discovery comes two days after the child went missing.
The deceased baby boy Md. Ismail(6) was the son of Md. Akbar Hossain from Ward 5 of Borhanuddin Municipality. Following the recovery the police detained a local youth Md. Rokon for questioning.
Ismail went missing on Sunday morning after leaving home for a shop near the local Hawladar Market. Despite extensive searches, his family failed to trace him. On Tuesday around 11:00 AM the locals noticed a foul odor emanating from a floating sack in a nearby canal and immediately notified the authorities. Police arrived, opened the sack and discovered the missing child's body.
According to the victim's uncle Md. Saikat Islam Babu the deceased father recently had a dispute with the suspect Rokon, over the sale of a mobile phone. Just a day before the child’s disappearance, Rokon allegedly threatened Ismail’s father, warning he would do something to make him "weep for the rest of his life." The family believes this dispute led to the boy's tragic murder and is demanding strict justice.
Inspector Ripon Kumar Saha of the Borhanuddin Police Station confirmed that the body has been sent to the Bhola Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The exact cause of death will be determined once the medical report is available.
Police are treating the incident with high priority. The detained suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and formal legal action will be initiated as soon as the victim's family files a case.
