Mobile Court Seizes Banned Fishing Nets in Mohanganj

A mobile court in Mohanganj upazila of Netrokona has seized and destroyed banned fishing nets worth more than Tk 20 lakh in a drive aimed at protecting fish fry and mother fish in haor waters.

The operation was conducted on Monday afternoon at Khalifa Patti (Jal Patti) area under Mohanganj municipality. Acting on secret information, the mobile court led by Upazila Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) M.A. Quader raided the house of Rocky Molla.

During the drive, officials recovered a large stock of illegal Chinese fishing nets valued at around Tk 20 lakh from his residence.

As the owner was not present, the mobile court fined his mother, Asma Akhter, Tk 5,000 for failing to present him during the operation.

Later, the seized nets were transported to the upazila premises and publicly burned.

Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Anik Rahman assisted in the drive, while Mohanganj Police Station provided full support to ensure security and smooth execution of the operation.
