Bangladesh is observing Holy Ashura today with deep religious fervor and solemnity commemorating the tragic martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
Marking the 10th of Muharram in the Islamic calendar, Ashura reflects on the historical events of the Hijri year 61. On this day, Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and 72 devoted followers, embraced martyrdom at the desert of Karbala. They made the ultimate sacrifice in a historic stand against the tyranny of Yazid's forces to uphold the true teachings of Islam.
The day is observed as a national public holiday. Across the country, various religious organizations have arranged special programs, including prayers, discussions and traditional processions to honor the sacrifices made at Karbala.
To ensure the peaceful observance of the day's events, law enforcement agencies have implemented heightened security measures, particularly across the capital, Dhaka.
Additionally, state broadcasters Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar alongside private television channels are airing special programs throughout the day to highlight the profound historical and spiritual significance of Ashura.
