The Holy Ashura, marking the tragic martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 followers at the desert of Karbala in 61 Hijri, is being observed across Bangladesh today with profound religious fervor and solemnity.
A designated public holiday is being commemorated through various religious programs with state and private media outlets airing special broadcasts highlighting the significance of the 10th of Muharram.
In the capital traditional Tajia procession commenced on Friday morning from the historic Hossaini Dalan Imambara in Old Dhaka. Thousands of mourners, dressed in black to symbolize grief, participated in the procession filling the air with the mournful chant of "Hay Hossain." Devotees carried traditional religious symbols, including the Nishan, Alam and the symbolic Duldul horse.
Under tight security protocols enforced by SWAT and local police, the procession navigated through Bakshibazar, Lalbagh, Azimpur, New Market and Science Lab before concluding at the symbolic 'Karbala' premises near Dhanmondi Lake.
Following the procession, traditional 'Shirni' will be distributed. In the evening the 'Same Gariba' majlish will take place in darkness at the Imambara to reflect on the enduring tragedy of Karbala.
Alongside Hossaini Dalan, similar Tajia processions, majlish, and religious gatherings are taking place at around 30 other Imambaras in the capital, including those in Baro Katara, Mohammadpur, Purana Paltan and Moghbazar.
