New Off-Dock Approved in Chattogram to Handle Containers

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has approved a new inland container depot, operated by Karnaphully Drydock Limited (KDDL) to handle empty and export-cargo containers amid Bangladesh's growing external trade.

The approval follows the ICD/CFS Policy 2016 and the 2021 Policy for setting up and operating private ICD/CFS or off-docks, issued by the National Board of Revenue according to a CPA letter.

Located in Anwara, Chattogram, the off-dock will store empty containers of various sizes on behalf of shipping agents and mainline operators, while also handling export containers.

The off-dock authority has been directed to follow the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and keep its ISPS Certificate updated in line with Department of Shipping standards.

Container transfers must be supervised by Chattogram Customs House and CPA with using an Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) or GPS tracking. Cargo-laden containers must be scanned before transfer and all operations must be monitored via CCTV per CPA's directive.

With this addition, the number of privately-owned off-docks in Bangladesh rises to 24, most located in Chattogram. These off-docks currently handle all export cargo 65 categories of import goods and the bulk of empty container storage nationwide.
