A mobile court has cleared approximately 31 decimals of illegally occupied land belonging to the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in the Tetultala area of Koijuri Union, Faridpur Sadar Upazila. Authorities estimate the market value of the recovered land at Tk 6 crore.
Led by Executive Magistrate Md. Shafiqul Islam under the direction of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), the two-hour eviction drive took place on Sunday (June 21) from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, in coordination with the local RHD.
According to officials, an individual named Hamza illegally filled government-acquired land (SA plots 2024 and 2025 in Gangabardi Mouza) to construct a semi-permanent market. Despite repeated warnings from the RHD and the upazila administration to vacate the property, the warnings were ignored.
During the drive, the illegal structures were demolished. The bricks and sand recovered from the site were sold through a public auction, with the proceeds deposited into the government treasury. Kotwali police and Ansar Battalion members were deployed to maintain law and order. RHD Sub-Divisional Engineer Nafiz Tanzim assisted the operation by using surveyors to accurately mark the land boundaries.
"There is zero tolerance for the illegal occupation of government land," stated Executive Magistrate Md. Shafiqul Islam. "Because our previous warnings were ignored, we had to conduct this eviction through a mobile court. Similar drives will continue to protect public property."
Sub-Divisional Engineer Nafiz Tanzim added, "The structures were built on land officially acquired by the RHD. We recovered about 31 decimals of land after conducting a proper survey and demarcation."
The local administration confirmed that regular surveillance and strict legal measures will continue to prevent future encroachments on government property.
