Reports of Lifting Ban on Awami League Are Rumors: Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has dismissed social media reports suggesting that the ban on Awami League’s political activities has been lifted, calling them baseless rumors.

Speaking at an event in the capital on Wednesday (August 12), the minister addressed questions regarding the widespread social media claims.

"I received a question noting that rumors are circulating on social media about the ban on Awami League being lifted. However, no such rumor has come to the government's attention so far," Swapan stated.

When asked if any action would be taken against those spreading such claims, he replied, "We do not wish to consider a rumor that has not officially reached our ears." Upcoming Presidential Election

Addressing queries about the presidential election, the minister highlighted that the entire nation is occupied with the constitutionally mandated process.

"According to the country's constitution, the nation and its people are busy with the presidential election process. Nomination papers will be submitted tomorrow, and the election will take place on August 20. We hope the nation gets a desirable, popular, and widely acceptable president," he said. On the current state of bilateral ties with India, the Information Minister referenced recent diplomatic interactions.

He noted that after meeting with the Prime Minister, the Indian High Commissioner remarked that there are no issues between the two neighboring countries that cannot be resolved. "We are eagerly awaiting positive outcomes," Swapan added. Empowerment of the Youth

Highlighting the pivotal role of youth in nation-building, the minister emphasized that young people are a nation's core strength and blessing, especially during times of crisis and disaster.

"The present era is driven by information technology, and the world is entering the age of artificial intelligence. If provided with the right skills and education, the youth will make significant contributions to the country," he noted, adding that the current government has already undertaken several initiatives to transform the youth into a skilled workforce.
