The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has suspended captain Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days and fined him €255 ($286) after he left the national team training camp without permission following a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.
The 41-year-old forward left Portugal’s camp in Copenhagen on September 30, a day before a UEFA Nations League match against Denmark. The FPF’s disciplinary council ruled that Ronaldo committed a deliberate offense under federation regulations, confirming the suspension alongside a fine equal to 2.5 accounting units.
The rift developed after Ronaldo was left as an unused substitute during Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway on September 27. Following his departure, Ronaldo issued a statement accusing Jesus of breaching promises regarding his playing time. However, CR-7 apologized for leaving without authorization with stating he would accept the federation's disciplinary decision and emphasizing that he has no plans to retire from international football.
Ronaldo had been under a provisional suspension since leaving the squad but the ruling did not specify whether the time already served will count toward the 30-day ban.
