Development organization DORP observed National Sanitation Month and World Handwashing Day 2026 with an awareness program at Olamaganj NU Alim Madrasa in Morelganj, Bagerhat.
Organized under the Increasing Access to Improved WASH Services in Bangladesh project supported by Helvetas Bangladesh and charity water the event took place on Monday (October 19). The day’s activities included a colorful rally, a discussion meeting and a practical handwashing demonstration.
Principal Md. Nasir Uddin and Assistant Principal Abdul Waheed of Olamaganj NU Alim Madrasa attended the program alongside DORP Upazila Project Manager Nurefa Arju, Upazila Coordinator Sawkat Chowdhury, Monitoring Coordinator Md. Humayun Kabir and Community Development Officer Razia Sultana. Teachers, students and local dignitaries were also present.
Carrying the theme "Be a Hand Washing Hero" students led a rally starting from the madrasa premises that paraded through local roads. During the subsequent discussion, student cabinet members highlighted the critical role of regular handwashing with soap in disease prevention and health protection.
The event concluded with a step-by-step demonstration showcasing proper handwashing techniques to students and community members.
