Member of Parliament for Bagerhat-4, Principal Abdul Alim, held a follow-up accountability meeting in Morelganj on Sunday to review local climate change impacts and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) crises.
The session tracked the progress of a formal charter of demands submitted to the lawmaker on March 3, 2026, by the community advocacy groups "Mother Parliament" and "Budget Club." The primary issues raised included acute drinking water scarcity, rising waterlogging due to silted canals, and severe river erosion along the Panguchi River.
Addressing the forum, MP Abdul Alim announced that formal steps are underway to repair the dilapidated North Sutaldi wooden bridge. To tackle the safe water crisis, he confirmed that he recently met with the Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) Minister, who has already fast-tracked a project proposal through the ministry.
Furthermore, the lawmaker stated that he had formally introduced the urgent need for local embankment dams on the floor of the National Parliament. He expressed optimism that the government would deploy immediate resources to safeguard the vulnerable coastal community.
Alim thanked the civic organizers for their persistent advocacy and stated that he would personally inspect the ground-level development initiatives of the development organization DORP right after the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
Community leaders Shaibya Dakua, Momtaz Begum, Shefali Akhter Rakhi, and Khalilur Rahman were present at the meeting.
