A Chittagong court on Wednesday (August 12) granted a fresh five-day remand for Mobarak Hossain Imon, alias David Imon, a top local terrorist, in connection with an extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station.

Chittagong Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim passed the order following a hearing.

Court sources revealed that police had sought a seven-day remand for David Imon in the extortion case. After the hearing, the court granted five days. Earlier, on August 2, Chittagong Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Motasim Billah had granted a 10-day remand for him in the same case.

Confirming the matter, Chittagong District Court Inspector Habibur Rahman said, "A seven-day remand prayer was submitted against accused David Imon in the Hathazari police station extortion case. Following the hearing, the court approved a five-day remand."

Mobarak Hossain Imon, alias David Imon (25), is the son of the late Md. Musa, hailing from the Kanchan Nagar area of Fatikchhari Upazila.

On July 29, police arrested David Imon along with three others from the Jhumjhumpur area under Kotwali Police Station in Jhashore. According to Chittagong District Police, his location was traced based on information gathered during the investigation into the Maksudul Haq Chowdhury murder case in Pahartali on June 13, alongside ongoing intelligence operations.

Based on information extracted from the arrestees, police conducted a drive at an abandoned homestead in the Manikpur area of Fatikchhari's Kanchan Nagar Union early on July 30. During the operation, police recovered a foreign pistol, two locally made LGs, and other weapons.

According to police sources, David Imon faces a total of 13 cases, including murder, arms, and extortion charges, across various police stations in Chittagong city and district. Furthermore, investigations into his alleged involvement in several other murder cases are currently ongoing.
