


Faridpur observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Thursday with a vibrant rally and a discussion meeting alongwith a cultural program aimed at raising public awareness.
Jointly organized by the District Administration and the Department of Narcotics Control, the day’s events began with a rally led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mazharul Islam. The procession started at the DC office and concluded at Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, where a formal discussion was held.
Addressing the audience as the chief guest, DC Mazharul Islam highlighted the far-reaching impact of substance abuse. "Drugs are a major threat not just to individuals also families, society and the state," he said. He emphasized that while law enforcement plays a crucial role, families, educational institutions and social organizations must actively collaborate to build a drug-free society. He also stressed the importance of engaging the youth in sports and creative activities to protect them from addiction.
Additional District Magistrate Sushmita Saha presided over the session. Key speakers included Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shamsul Azam, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan and Shirin Akhter, Deputy Director of the Narcotics Control Department. They echoed the sentiment that administrative campaigns must be paired with strong social resistance to foster a healthy and secure Bangladesh.
The event concluded with a cultural program and the distribution of prizes to the winners of various youth anti-drug competitions.
