Dengue infections are steadily rising in Faridpur with 11 new patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours and the district recording a recent fatality. Currently, 25 patients are undergoing treatment and 163 have received care during the current outbreak according to Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan.
The deceased, 30-year-old Nasrin Sultana from Chowdhurykanda in Bhanga upazila died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital early on August 20. Her death has sparked allegations of medical negligence against a local healthcare facility.
Nasrin’s husband Miraj Sheikh claimed she was initially admitted to Bhanga Hospital on Sunday with a fever. He alleges that despite conducting several tests, the on-duty doctors did not recommend or allow a dengue screening. As her condition rapidly deteriorated, the family conducted a private test and confirmed she had dengue. She was then rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where she tragically passed away.
"If we had known earlier that she was infected with dengue, we could have started proper treatment sooner and possibly saved her" a grieving Miraj stated.
In response to the escalating caseload Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan has urged residents to seek immediate medical advice and diagnostic testing at the first sign of a fever. He also stressed the critical need for community prevention with advising citizens to keep their homes and surrounding environments clean to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
