Faridpur has recorded another dengue death with 55-year-old Sekendar Mallick dying on the night of September 7 while undergoing treatment. He was a resident of Rajoir Upazila in Madaripur district and had been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on September 6 after showing dengue symptoms.

The district health department confirmed the death in a press note issued Wednesday morning as the dengue situation in Faridpur continues to worsen. In the last 24 hours alone, 24 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the district with dengue symptoms.

Currently, 60 dengue patients are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Faridpur. Health officials said a total of 344 people have been hospitalized for dengue so far this season of whom 282 have recovered and returned home. Four patients have died in total.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the latest death and stressed the need for greater public awareness. He urged residents to remove stagnant water around their homes, destroy mosquito breeding sites and use mosquito nets or other protective measures, even during daytime hours.

Health officials also advised that anyone showing dengue symptoms should seek medical attention immediately rather than delay treatment. They recommended drinking plenty of water and fluids during fever and undergoing tests as advised by a doctor.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Mazharul Islam said awareness campaigns are being run in educational institutions across the district to inform students and communities about dengue prevention. He added that the health department, local administration and municipal authorities have jointly stepped up efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and curb the spread of the disease.
