An Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) enforcement drive has uncovered the wastage of over Tk.23.5 crore in public funds at Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) alongside widespread procurement irregularities and operational negligence.
Following a 34-hour operation the ACC Assistant Director Mostafiz revealed that high-value medical machinery purchased during the 2016-17 fiscal year was paid for in full but never put to use. A Linear Accelerator worth Tk.14.5 crore for cancer treatment remains packed in crates due to a lack of required infrastructure. Similarly, a Tk.8.88 crore Cath Lab in the cardiology unit was installed nine years ago but has never been made operational.
The team also detected severe discrepancies in Medical Supplies and Reagents (MSR) procurement also missing inventories of essential medicines and missing supplies of X-ray and CT scan films despite contractors receiving full payment. Furthermore, revenue generated from three operational government ambulances was not deposited into state coffers over the past month.
The ACC team has seized official records regarding procurement, outsourced recruitment and patient-broker syndicates. Officials stated that liability will be fixed after document scrutiny and a formal report will be submitted to the ACC Commission for further action.
Responding to the findings the Acting Director Dr. Manash Krishna Kundu stated that the hospital cooperated fully with investigators and had previously notified the Ministry regarding the idle machinery.
