


Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has officially returned to professional football with joining Italian Serie C club Ravenna 11 years after his last appearance. The 46-year-old former Barcelona and AC Milan star also acquired a stake in the third-tier club was unveiled to nearly 6,000 fans at a beachside ceremony on Thursday.
Ronaldinho last played professionally for Fluminense in 2015 before formally retiring in 2018, hopes to score his 300th career goal with his new team. While he will miss Ravenna’s season opener against Reggiana on Monday he remains optimistic about his role.
"I came here because of the friendship we have. I'm here to help," Ronaldinho said, noting that his debut and playing time will ultimately depend on the club's president and coach.
Ravenna President Ignazio Cipriani arrived with the Brazilian icon via private jet and expressed his dream to see the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner score the final goal of his illustrious career for the club.
Ronaldinho’s unexpected return brings massive global attention to Ravenna. The club has finished third in Serie C Group B last season is currently seeking a long-awaited promotion back to Serie B.
