Inter Milan officially secured their 21st Serie A title on Sunday with a 2-0 home victory over Parma, sparking wild celebrations at the San Siro. The win gives Inter an unassailable 12-point lead at the top of the table with only three matches left in the season.
The Nerazzurri entered the pitch knowing the title was within reach after second-placed Napoli’s goalless draw against Como on Saturday.
Inter controlled the tempo from the start. Midfielder Nicolo Barella nearly opened the scoring in the 25th minute when his thunderous strike hit the crossbar. Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki showed incredible reflexes to clear the rebound off the line.
The breakthrough came in first-half stoppage time. Marcus Thuram found himself unmarked in the box and calmly slotted home a through ball from Piotr Zielinski, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Inter continued to dominate the second half but struggled to find a clinical finishing touch. Denzel Dumfries missed a golden opportunity late in the game, firing over from close range.
However, the tension finally lifted 10 minutes from time. Captain Lautaro Martinez delivered a sharp low cross for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who tapped it in to make it 2-0 and guarantee the three points. Parma briefly thought they had scored through Nesta Elphege, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
For Inter, this "Scudetto" represents redemption after the disappointment of last season, where they lost the league on the final day and suffered a heavy defeat in the Champions League final.
"We feel so happy now," Martinez told reporters. "It wasn't easy to start again after losing everything right at the end last season, but we worked hard on and off the field to reach this objective."
Nicolo Barella echoed the sentiment, praising the team's unity: "I am so proud of these players. This team never lost the desire to stay together."
