DSHE Forms Monitoring Committee to Track Teachers’ and Officials’ Social Media Use

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has formed a special monitoring committee to oversee whether teachers, officials and employees under its jurisdiction are using social media in accordance with government rules and guidelines.

The move comes as authorities seek to ensure compliance with the government’s prescribed social media guidelines and code of conduct for public servants.

Special Committee to Monitor Social Media Activities

The matter was confirmed in a notification issued on Tuesday, signed by Professor Tipu Sultan, Director of the Monitoring and Evaluation Wing of DSHE and convener of the Social Media Monitoring Committee.

According to the notification, government officials and employees are required to follow the applicable guidelines and code of conduct when using social media platforms.

The committee has been formed to monitor whether members of the education sector are properly following the revised social media guidelines issued by the Cabinet Division.

What Will the Committee Monitor?

The notification says that if any member of the DSHE education community publishes content on social media that violates government guidelines or could damage official discipline or the institution’s reputation, the matter should be brought to the committee’s attention.

The committee will monitor content including:

  • Facebook posts and statuses
  • Comments
  • Photographs
  • Videos
  • Other social media content

Particular attention will be given to content described as objectionable, misleading, false or contrary to official guidelines.

Evidence Required for Complaints

The DSHE has instructed individuals who report such content to provide clear information about the concerned person.

A complaint should include the official’s or teacher’s:

  • Name
  • Designation
  • Workplace
  • Social media account link

Complainants have also been asked to attach screenshots of the disputed post or status, along with its specific publication date and time and any other relevant evidence.

The information should be sent to the committee through email at director.mew@gmail.com.

The initiative is intended to strengthen compliance with government social media rules across educational institutions under DSHE while allowing authorities to identify and review content that may violate the applicable guidelines.
