


A monsoonal depression has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas, bringing the possibility of widespread rain and thunderstorms across Bangladesh. Some areas could experience moderate to very heavy rainfall.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued the forecast up to 6:00pm Tuesday (August 18).
According to the forecast, the depression may move further toward the northwest. The monsoon axis currently extends from Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar through the centre of the depression and southern Bangladesh to Assam.
The southwesterly monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over the north Bay of Bengal.
Rain or thunderstorms may occur in:
Most areas: Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions Many areas: Rangpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions
Temporary gusty winds may accompany the rain in some areas.
The weather office has also warned that moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations.
Due to the rainfall, daytime temperatures across the country may drop by 1–2°C. Nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
From 6:00pm Tuesday through the following 24 hours, rain is expected in many areas of all eight divisions.
Temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are forecast for Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Isolated areas may again receive moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall, while day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.
