World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture backed by President Donald Trump, is collaborating with WorldClaw a Hong Kong-based platform that offers AI models from Chinese companies the U.S. government has flagged as national security risks.
A Reuters review found nearly half of WorldClaw's 90 available AI models come from Chinese firms like Alibaba, Baidu, and Z.ai companies the Pentagon and Commerce Department have restricted over military ties or intellectual property concerns. WorldClaw also offers models from U.S. firms including OpenAI and Anthropic.
While the arrangement isn't illegal, experts say it conflicts with the administration's tough stance on Chinese technology. WorldClaw accepts World Liberty's USD1 stablecoin as payment, and the Trump family earns revenue from its use though exact profits remain unclear.
The White House denied any conflict of interest, saying Trump "only acts in the best interests of the American public." World Liberty called WorldClaw an independent company and many U.S. firms offer both American and Chinese AI models. WorldClaw said its availability doesn't imply endorsement of any developer.
Trump's sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, co-founded World Liberty and have publicly promoted WorldClaw. A World Liberty executive has also served as an advisor to the platform. The Trump family has earned over $1.4 billion from World Liberty token sales also part of a broader $2.3 billion in crypto earnings reported earlier this year.
Analysts warn that Chinese AI models could expose users to government monitoring, censored outputs or security risks. WorldClaw says it applies privacy and security safeguards though it acknowledges sharing user data with model providers.
