National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah has ordered the launch of career centers in colleges affiliated with the university to better prepare students for their future careers.
Speaking as chief guest at a graduation ceremony for the "Bridging Aspiration to Achievement" Career Center project a joint initiative of National University, the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) and Lalmatia Government Women's College Amanullah said the centers would go beyond job preparation to include language clubs, cultural activities and skill-building programs.
He said the goal is to help students discover their interests and capabilities early, acquire relevant skills and plan their careers strategically with enabling them to contribute more effectively to Bangladesh's development.
Amanullah noted that National University is modernizing its curriculum to meet current job market demands, with growing focus on fields like AI, robotics, data science and hospitality management. He stressed that many affiliated colleges are located in rural areas and improving their quality remains a major but necessary challenge.
Describing the reform effort as a rare opportunity, he said, "If we cannot reform the National University now, this chance may not come again for 20 years." He added that career centers would bridge the gap between students and the job market by strengthening communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Alexandra Khlevnoy, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka, attended as special guest while Principal Professor Sultana Mahmuda Yasmin of Lalmatia Government Women's College delivered the welcome address. Other university officials with BYLC representatives, teachers and students were also present. The Vice-Chancellor distributed certificates to students who completed the training.
