Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said Monday that the government will implement a new pay scale for public servants within this year though further discussion is needed before a final decision.
He spoke after a meeting at the Finance Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat to review the judicial pay scale. He said the government would announce its full decision once discussions on various aspects of the National Pay Commission's recommendations are complete.
"We had a long discussion today and more discussion is needed" Khosru said, adding that the new scale would "certainly" be implemented within the year.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir and Finance Secretary Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder.
Khosru noted that Monday's discussion addressed only one aspect of the pay scale, with other issues still under review before a final decision is reached.
A day earlier the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar had said a new pay scale for public servants could be announced "at any moment."
The current Pay Commission was formed in 2025, twelve years after the Eighth Pay Commission was established in 2013.
