A colorful rally was held in Laxmipur on Monday to mark the launch of Bangladesh's first-ever "Boat Census 2026." The rally began at the Upazila Parishad auditorium in the municipal town with moved through the city's main roads and concluded with a brief gathering at the same venue.

The census running from August 20 to 29, 2026 is a joint initiative of the Department of Shipping and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

Laxmipur Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Samrat Khisa, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kathwaipru Marma and District Statistics Officer Kamal Hossain attended the rally.

The initiative aims to build a comprehensive database of all engine-powered vessels operating in the country's sea-going, coastal and inland waters. In Laxmipur district the 56 enumerators will collect data across four upazilas as part of the nationwide effort.
