A court in Chattogram has granted a five-day remand for alleged top criminal Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, in an arms case filed with Fatikchhari Police Station.
The order was passed on Monday (August 17) afternoon by Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Saima Afrin after a hearing.
Police had sought seven days of remand to question Emon in connection with the arms case. The court ultimately granted five days, according to Chattogram District Court Inspector Habibur Rahman.
Before Monday’s order, Emon had already been questioned in custody for a total of 15 days in two separate rounds of remand by Chattogram district police.
On August 12, a Chattogram Judicial Magistrate’s Court granted him five days’ remand in an extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station.
Earlier, on August 2, another Chattogram court had granted 10 days’ remand in a separate case.
Emon, 25, is the son of the late Md. Musa of Kanchannagar in Fatikchhari upazila.
Police arrested David Emon and three others from the Jhumjhumpur area under Jashore Kotwali Police Station on July 29.
According to Chattogram District Police, investigators identified Emon’s location through information obtained during the investigation into the June 13 murder of Maksudul Haque Chowdhury in the Pahartali area, along with subsequent intelligence operations.
Based on information provided by the arrested suspects, police conducted a raid early on July 30 at an abandoned house in Manikpur, Kanchannagar Union, Fatikchhari.
Police said they recovered a foreign-made pistol, two locally made LG firearms and other locally made weapons from the location.
According to police, 13 cases involving murder, arms offences and extortion have been filed against David Emon at various police stations in Chattogram city and district.
Police are also investigating his alleged involvement in several other killings.
Emon was brought to court under tight security on Monday. Police presence was strengthened around the court premises during the hearing, after which officers took him into custody.
The allegations against the accused remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
