Miscreants hacked and critically injured a businessman before looting Tk.5 to 6 lakh from him in the Tin Pul area of Chattogram city late Saturday night.
The victim identified as Zakir Hossain is currently undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Ashek, in charge of the CMCH police outpost, confirmed that the incident took place around 12:30 AM on Saturday. According to police and hospital records 5 to 6 miscreants ambushed Zakir as he was returning home from Riazuddin Bazar. The attackers stabbed him with sharp knives, snatched the cash and fled the scene also leaving him severely injured. A passerby rescued Zakir and rushed him to the hospital.
Mohammad Abul Kashem the General Secretary of the Riazuddin Bazar Merchants Association condemned the violent attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahedul Kabir stated that law enforcement agencies have initiated an investigation to identify the miscreants. Officers are analyzing nearby CCTV footage to track down the attackers and bring them to justice swiftly.
