Brandon King scored an unbeaten 81 to guide West Indies to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh on the fourth day of the first Test in Mirpur, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Chasing a modest target of 170 on a spin-friendly pitch the West Indies overcame bad light and rain disruptions through a dominant 112-run opening stand between King and John Campbell (49). King hit 10 fours and a six in his 115-ball innings, capitalizing on dropped chances by Najmul Hossain Shanto and Ebadot Hossain.
Though Shoriful Islam bowled Campbell and Hasan Mahmud removed Tagenarine Chanderpaul (1) in quick succession, Kavem Hodge (31*) partnered with King to seal the win with an unbroken 50-run third-wicket stand.
Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their second innings at 79 for 6. Lower-order batter Nayeem Hasan showed resistance, scoring his maiden Test half-century to take Bangladesh to 169.
However, off-spinner Roston Chase dominated the morning session, taking 5 for 36 and crossing the 100-wicket milestone in Test cricket. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican claimed 4 for 63 earning the Player of the Match award after finishing with nine wickets in the match.
