The Chattogram District Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested Md. Sabbir Hossain Sunny (34), a close associate of notorious Chattogram criminal 'Boro Sajjad.' DB officers conducted a night raid on October 30 to arrest Sunny from Siddhirganj Upazila in Narayanganj.
According to police, Sunny returned to Bangladesh last year from abroad under instructions from Boro Sajjad. He was put on a monthly salary of Tk.50,000 to manage local extortion and criminal operations in Chattogram, replacing imprisoned gang leader David Emon. Working alongside another associate named Borhan, Sunny led a syndicate that targeted local residents and business owners.
Investigators revealed that when targets refused extortion demands, Sunny ordered armed gang members to attack their homes or commercial establishments. Police have obtained audio recordings of recent extortion threats, which are currently undergoing forensic verification.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Rasel reported that Sunny was tracked down through intelligence surveillance after fleeing Chattogram. Sunny faces multiple charges at the Panchlaish and Hathazari police stations. Police stated that several members of the syndicate are now hiding in different districts to evade ongoing operations and drive is underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
