Police in Cox’s Bazar will take school and college students into legal custody if they are found loitering on the streets after sunset and announced DIG of Chattogram Range during a public awareness meeting on Saturday evening.
Speaking at the Cox’s Bazar Public Library’s Shaheed Subhash Hall, the DIG emphasized that stringent measures are necessary to curb juvenile delinquency and protect youth from gang culture. He attributed the rise of juvenile gangs to lax parental supervision, a lack of moral education, and indifference from teachers and guardians.
"We have made a decision to completely eradicate juvenile gangs" the DIG declared, calling on political figures, social groups and citizens to support special police operations aimed at securing the international tourist hub.
Presiding over the event, Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) ANM Sajedur Rahman stated that district police will immediately enforce the directives to halt unnecessary evening hangouts by students. He urged parents to strictly monitor their children's activities.
The meeting organized by the District Police in collaboration with World Vision Bangladesh, BLAST and the Child Safety Net Project, focused on preventing violence against women and children and curbing social crimes. Community leaders, political representatives and local press members called for collective action among families, schools and law enforcement to build a crime-free society.
