A young businessman was killed during a violent altercation at the Renaissance Hotel bar in the Jhautala area late Thursday night.
The victim, identified as Nazibul Haque Rashed from the Fisherighat Para area, died after being struck with a broken glass bottle during a dispute between two groups over alcohol at approximately 11:30 pm. Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Solaiman in connection with the murder.
Witnesses and police report that a verbal argument quickly escalated into a physical clash. During the scuffle, Rashed sustained severe neck injuries from shattered glass. He was rescued in critical condition and rushed to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival. His body has been moved to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station, confirmed that investigators have collected and are reviewing the venue's CCTV footage. Following a rapid raid that led to Solaiman's arrest, multiple police teams are now actively working to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The authorities have temporarily shut down the Renaissance Hotel bar to preserve the crime scene and collect evidence.
Police are also investigating potential lapses in the venue's security protocols and access control to determine if negligence played a role in the fatal incident. Comprehensive legal proceedings are underway to ensure justice.
