The official website of Bangladesh Bank was brought back online on Sunday morning following a three-day precautionary shutdown triggered by global cybersecurity concerns.
The central bank took its website offline on Thursday evening after the European Union’s cybersecurity agency issued an alert regarding two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, a widely used programming language. The EU agency advised organizations to temporarily disable vulnerable websites if security patches could not be applied immediately.
Speaking on Saturday night the central bank spokesperson and Executive Director Arief Hossain Khan stated that while restoration preparations were complete, the website would remain offline as long as global risks persisted with the IT team monitoring systems around the clock.
Access was safely restored on Sunday morning to align with the resumption of regular banking operations following a five-day holiday period.
