The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed former national captain Mohammad Ashraful from his position as the men's team batting coach also reassigning him to an unspecified role within the board.
High Performance coach Mohammad Salahuddin will take over the batting coach duties on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is appointed. Salahuddin previously served as the national team's assistant coach and managed the batting unit before Ashraful was appointed to the role in November 2025. The BCB did not disclose further details regarding Ashraful's new responsibilities.
Ashraful 41, is a former international batter who represented Bangladesh in 61 Tests, 177 ODIs and 23 T20Is. He remains the youngest player to score a Test century and famously led Bangladesh to a historic ODI victory over Australia in 2005. His playing career also included a suspension following a 2013 match-fixing case in the Bangladesh Premier League after which he returned to domestic cricket before transitioning into coaching.
The coaching adjustment comes right before Bangladesh’s upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies which begins on October 28 in Mirpur. The national team recently finished as runners-up in the UAE ODI tri-series also losing the final to Afghanistan.
