An Islamic scholar died on Saturday morning after being crushed by a falling tree in Rahimpur village under Sahapur Union in Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna.
The deceased was identified as Maulana Mufti Nazrul Islam, son of the late Abdul Hamid Sardar. Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asadur Rahman confirmed the incident.
According to local sources, Mufti Nazrul had served for a long time as the imam of the Palli Vidyut Samiti Jame Masjid in Dhaka. Dreaming of establishing a madrasa in his hometown, he resigned from his position in Dhaka and returned to his village two months ago. The accident occurred around 8:30 AM while he was cutting down a tree on his property to clear space for the planned madrasa. The tree fell on him, causing critical injuries.
Family members rescued him and rushed him to Pabna General Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
