Official operations across 87 government primary schools in Naogaon's Porsha upazila have faced severe disruptions as internet services remain suspended for nearly 10 months despite functional infrastructure being in place.
The connectivity drive was implemented under the government's "Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC)" project executed by the Department of Information and Communication Technology. Fiber-optic cables were laid, and an internet service provider, "Drik ICT," set up connections in 2025. However after operating briefly the service broke down completely.
School headmasters and teacher association leaders reported that essential administrative tasks including official communications, data submission, receiving ministry directives and daily WhatsApp attendance reporting have been severely affected. Teachers are currently using personal mobile data or spending institutional funds on private local connections to manage routine work.
Abdur Roich Uddin, General Secretary of the Upazila Primary Teachers' Association noted that internet access is a necessity not a luxury for modern school operations.
Addressing the issue, Porsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rakibul Islam confirmed receiving complaints regarding service mismanagement by Drik ICT. He stated that a formal report has been submitted to higher authorities, expressing hope for swift intervention to restore connectivity.
