Government Proposes Rear Admiral Akhtar Hossain for Chattogram Port Chairman Post

The Ministry of Public Administration has proposed appointing Rear Admiral Dr. Khandaker Akhtar Hossain, the current Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University as Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority (CHPA). A letter has been sent to the Ministry of Shipping seeking its opinion on the deputation appointment with a final decision expected after review and further administrative process.

The proposal dated August 16 and signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Noor-e-Alam cites relevant recommendations from the Armed Forces Division and Navy Headquarters. The attached list names "Chairman, Chattogram Port Authority" as the proposed post with the Ministry of Shipping as the controlling ministry.

Rear Admiral Akhtar Hossain has served in several key Navy positions throughout his career. He previously worked at Chattogram Port Authority as Member (Engineer), where he contributed to major infrastructure and development projects.

The Ministry's letter stops short of confirming his final appointment it only proposes the move and requests the Shipping Ministry's opinion. A formal decision will follow once the administrative process is complete.

The current CHPA Chairman is Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman has held the position since August 2024.
