October 17 Holiday Canceled; Offices to Stay Open on Saturday

The government has canceled the executive holiday previously planned for Saturday, October 17, during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.

As a result all government, semi-government, autonomous and private offices across the country will remain open on October 17, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday.

Under the updated schedule, official public holidays for Durga Puja will observe on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. However, offices will function as usual on Saturday, October 17.

Emergency services including electricity, water, gas, fuel, fire response, port operations, sanitation, telecommunications, internet and postal services will remain fully operational during the holiday period. Hospitals, emergency medical care, doctors and related medical staff are also exempted from the holiday list.

Bangladesh Bank will issue separate directives to regulate banking activities while the Supreme Court will decide court proceedings. Additionally, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue instructions for private industrial sectors and factories in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.

The directive was formally issued in an official circular signed by Md. Waliul Hasan the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
