A mobile court has fined Ayub Hilltop Super Market Tk 200,000 and sentenced its manager, Oliur Rahman, 58, to four months in prison for selling and storing expired products, including children’s items.

The penalty was imposed during an inspection of the supermarket in Rajbari Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon. The operation was led by Payra Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate of Rajbari Sadar.

A large quantity of expired products was also seized during the drive.

District sanitary inspector and safe food inspector Surya Kumar Pramanik, along with a team from Sadar Police Station, assisted in the operation.

Executive Magistrate Payra Chowdhury said the operation was conducted following allegations that expired products were being sold and stored at the supermarket. Inspectors found evidence supporting the allegations.

The supermarket was fined Tk 200,000 and its manager was sentenced to four months of non-rigorous imprisonment under Sections 51 and 53 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
