Bangladesh Make History With First Test Win in Australia

Bangladesh secured a historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the Darwin Test, earning their first-ever Test win on Australian soil and their second Test victory against Australia.

Chasing just 57 runs for victory, Bangladesh reached the target with nine wickets in hand after bowling Australia out for 284 in their second innings.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the star with the ball, taking five wickets to lead Bangladesh’s attack. Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud added three wickets as Australia struggled to build a defendable total.

Miraz also became the first visiting spinner since India’s Kuldeep Yadav in 2019 to take a five-wicket haul in a Test in Australia.

The victory ends a nine-year wait for Bangladesh to beat Australia in Test cricket. Their previous win came in 2017 in Mirpur.

The result is particularly significant given Australia’s status as the top-ranked team in the World Test Championship and one of the strongest sides in world cricket.

Bangladesh’s win also marks a major milestone in their Test history, coming more than two decades after their first Test tour of Australia.

For Bangladesh, the Darwin victory is not only their first Test win in Australia but also one of the most significant overseas victories in the country’s cricket history.
