BNP Government Announces Free Higher Education for Women Up to Honours Level

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that the government will cover all educational expenses to provide free education for women up to the honours level.

Speaking during a goodwill exchange at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat in Pakundia, where he inaugurated 'National Fisheries Week-2026' by releasing fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River the Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of women in national progress.

Building on former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's initiative that made education free for female students up to the 12th grade, the current administration extends free education through undergraduate studies.

Stipends will be awarded to female students achieving top academic results to encourage higher educational performance.

The government plans to annually distribute school uniforms, school bags, and new textbooks to nearly 12 million primary school children across the country.

Highlighting promises made prior to the election, the Prime Minister announced the phased rollout of 'Family Cards' to female heads of households, with initial distribution launched in Kishoreganj. The initiative aims to reach 40 million families over the next five years.

The Prime Minister noted that releasing fish fry into open water bodies directly benefits the local population, boosting fish production and creating sustainable economic opportunities for local fishermen and rural communities.
